What’s New In Business Central 2026 Release Wave 1
Microsoft recently unveiled a range of upcoming features for the latest release wave of Business Central. Here are 5 of our favourite “What’s new” picks to improve efficiency in your business.
Dynamic Posting Dates – Generally available April 2026
How many times have you gone to post a record and have been met with the error message “Posting Date is not within your range of allowed posting dates”?
Over many years of experience across multiple companies, we know that this is a hassle for customers and partners alike. A hassle that will soon be a thing of the past with this first brilliant update from Microsoft; Dynamic Posting Dates.
Instead of manually setting these posting dates every month, with constant calendar reminders to update these, Business Central can now automatically update these based on simple parameters.
Do you want to only allow posting in the current month? Check
Do you want to only allow posting up to the current work date? Check
Do you want to reduce the number of support tickets you’re raising? Check
Get ready to delete those calendar reminders and be ready for the first exciting update.

Business Central Document Storage – Generally available April 2026
Suffering from Data Bloat?

Business Central can now store document attachments in external storage platforms such as SharePoint or Azure Storage. For most of you, nothing will appear to change. Your attachments will open and behave exactly the same, but this change allows you to keep your files self-contained within the Microsoft Ecosystem, allowing easy access to all of your files while also reducing the load on the Business Central database, improving performance and controlling storage costs over time.

Expense Reports – Generally available October 2026
When choosing an ERP system, you want one that is all encompassing, minimising the need for additional add-ons to the software. This next new feature brings Expense Reporting in house.
Useful for Employees and Employers alike, this new feature streamlines your expense process within Business Central. Employees can now submit expenses, itemised or per diem, through an expense report. This then creates an approval workflow allowing managers to review, edit, and approve or reject the reports, whilst giving employees the ability to track the current status. Finally, expense reimbursements can be posted as employee ledger entries and expense ledger entries with configurable accounts using Expense Categories and Expense Posting Groups.

UK Payment Practices – Generally available June 2026
Now onto a more serious update.
With the Reporting of Payment Practices and Performance Regulations 2024, businesses are now required to report on additional metrics such as the total sum of invoices paid within 30 days, total sums paid late, and the percentage of payments disputed. To conform with these regulatory changes, Business Central will soon allow automatic tracking of these metrics. This data can be exported in a CSV format making compliance easier and more accurate, whilst also removing the amount of manual work required.

Who changed the record? – Generally available April 2026
Finally we reach the last of our favourite changes.
How often do you wonder who changed, or who’s taking ownership, of a record?
Currently if you wanted to answer this question, you’d have to go rooting around the backend of the system, or failing that, a loud shout across the office. With this last change, the avatars of the person that created a record and last updated a record now appear as a column. Now you can find this once hidden information at a quick glance. We can’t guarantee loud shouts across the office will stop though!
